The main witness and communicator of Sri Lankan history and culture for over two decades, the main purpose of palm leaf writing is to document the Tripitaka Dhamma and its associated literary traditions.Moreover, palm leaf manuscripts are a repository that transmits our intangible cultural heritage from generation to generation.This 223-page book presents a wealth of valuable information about the history of palm – leaf manuscripts in Sri Lanka and the culture associated with it. Five chapters discuss in detail the historical development of palm – leaf manuscripts, the cultural roots that influenced palm – leaf manuscript writing, the culture associated with the production of palm – leaf manuscripts, the preservation of knowledge, and the maintenance of these manuscripts.
