The historic Galle Sri Paramananda Viharaya, famously known as the Atapattam Viharaya, stands as a monument to Sri Lanka’s religious and cultural revival. It was here that Venerable Bulathgama Sri Dhammalankara Sumanatissa Thero spearheaded a pivotal movement for spiritual restoration during the colonial era. In a significant effort to safeguard this legacy, a specialized program was recently concluded to preserve and hand over 346 invaluable ancient palm-leaf manuscripts belonging to the temple’s archives.

This vital conservation project was made possible through a strategic partnership, combining the technical expertise of the National Library and Documentation Services Board with the generous financial sponsorship of the Bauddhaloka Foundation.

The ceremonial inauguration took place on August 8, 2025, coinciding with the sacred Nikini Full Moon Poya Day. Held within the hallowed grounds of the Sri Paramananda Viharaya, the event was presided over the current incumbent, Venerable Mediripitiye Somarathana Thero. The ceremony was attended distinguished guests, including Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Chairman of the Bauddhaloka Foundation, and Mr. W. Sunil, Director General of the National Library and Documentation Services Board, alongside foundation representatives, board officials, and the local community, all gathered to witness the homecoming of these restored treasures.
