The 30th General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB), and the 21st General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY), the 12th Council Meeting of the World Buddhist University (WBU) was held from October 17 to 21, 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Jagath Sumathipala, who was the Vice-President of the World Fellowship of Buddhists was reappointed as the Vice-President.
The World Fellowship of Buddhists is an international Buddhist organisation established since B.E. 2493 (1950) in Sri Lanka the initiation of Dr. Gunapala Piyasena Malalasekera, a famous Sri Lankan Pali scholar, who inspired a Buddhist meeting leading to the founding of a world organisation.
His brilliant thoughts were responded to beyond expectation. Buddhist delegates from Asia, Europe and North America (including Hawaii) agreed to participate in a conference in Colombo. Apart from Sri Lankan participants, there were 129 Buddhist delegates from 27 countries.
Vice President of the World Fellowship of Buddhists and the former President of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Jagath Sumathipala and members from Sri Lanka participated in this meeting.
In conjunction with this meeting, Office Bearers were appointed on October 19, 2022. Phan Wannamethee, who was appointed as Honorary President at the 20th General Congress, retired from his position and Phallop Thaiarry, who had been the Vice President until now, was appointed as the new President at the 30th General Conference.
